In the arena of resort development, there is a long history of destinations emulating (and seeking to surpass) one another in efforts to maintain competitiveness. In recent years, the use of “best case” examples are common tools employed to showcase successful practices. In this paper we employ the lens of the recent “mobilities turn” in the social sciences (e.g. Sheller and Urry, 2004; Hannam, Sheller and Urry, 2006) to examine the notion of policy transfer (Stone, 1999). More specifically we consider aspects of policy mobility relating to sustainability in the context of resort destinations. As a case study, we examine how the innovative sustainability practices developed in Whistler, British Columbia (BC), Canada are being mobilized for adoption in other resort communities. The case of Osoyoos, BC, a small, newly designated resort municipality in the wine –growing region of southern BC serves as an example of how this model is being applied and adapted.
