Progress towards a more sustainable future of tourism is conditioned by simultaneous improvements of the production and consumption of leisure. Consequently, efforts are done by companies (hotels, airlines, tour operators, etc), governmental and non-governmental organizations to integrate sustainability practices into current and future development plans. (United Nations Environment Programme, 2002) Such hopes for developing sustainable tourism are also linked to the adoption of sustainable lifestyles by tourists. (Eligh, 2002; Sharpley, 2001) However, the tourists’ alignment to the efforts made by public and private organizations is still rare. Policy documents emphasize tourist role as being crucial for progress (European Commission, 2009; European Commission, 2010) but only a few guidelines tackle the problematic engagement of tourists. (International Task Force on Sustainable Tourism Development, 2009)
