This paper examines how mobility in higher tourism education may contribute to a dynamic leaning environment capable of integrating transnational and intercultural learning for sustainable tourism development. Central to this is the opening of the classroom to include new internet communication technologies and aspects of mobile leaning by immersion into different spatial, cultural and socio-political contexts. Mobility can be embedded into sustainable tourism education by use of Web 2.0 tools and obligatory student movement in support of knowledge sharing, critical thinking and agency for sustainable tourism development. Web 2.0 refers to the principles and practice of facilitating information sharing and social interaction by users generating, altering and uploading web-based content (O’Reilly, 2005). This is in contrast to its predecessor, Web 1.0, which limits users to the passive viewing and download of largely copyrighted information (Liburd, 2012).
